LEARN MORE ABOUT DON

Portrait of Don Jaques.

Hi, I’m Don Jaques.

I moved to Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island in 2002 with my wife Ann and two young children. Taking a job as pastor of a small church was a big change from my previous position overseeing the music and worship programs at a church in the Portland area. Although I loved what I did and the people of that church, over time it became increasingly difficult to make ends meet and to reconcile my evolving beliefs with the culture of that church. So in 2015, not knowing what I would do next, I resigned from that job and career. (You can read more about this entire process at amorebeautifulstory.com, a site I created.)

While searching for my next job, I ran into a friend who was a real estate agent and he told me I should consider becoming one too. My knee jerk reaction was, “No way! I don’t like sales or sales people!” He invited me and Ann to meet with him to discuss what it takes to succeed in real estate. At that meeting he told us, “It’s not sales, it’s service. You’d be helping people just like you’ve spent your life doing as a pastor.”

Before long I took the leap to get my real estate license and launched into this career. I’ve discovered he was right: I can succeed in real estate by being myself without having to be a “salesman”. For me that means being a person of integrity, honesty, and hard work. It also means enjoying being around people and making them smile.

Serving people is a deep value in my life and I look for ways to help people wherever I go. You might find me mowing a lawn or examining a crawlspace to help a friend or client. I also love sitting down with people over coffee to discuss matters of life and faith and real estate.

I never thought I’d be a real estate agent, but I’ve found it suits me because I get to help people navigate some of the most important life transitions and financial decisions they will make. I’d love to help you!
